When you haven’t seen your daughter for a year…

It makes Christmas that much sweeter. And Ice cream appear much more tastier. If that were even possible.

It makes playing Dirty Santa a whole lot funnier. Especially having her Spaniard husband playing along. He is very competitive. Or maybe pleading. The Jury is still out on that one.

It makes the silliness come out…for both her…and me.

One thing that makes it a bit easier with her living in Spain, is the fact that she is madly in love with her husband.

I am too. Except purely in a mother-in-law sort of way. I must clear that up.

They are a breath of fresh air.

This year we bought a ‘Pencil Tree” so I wouldn’t have to rearrange my living room to make room for a big one.

I asked her if she liked it. She said “What matters is if YOU like it.”

It didn’t make me feel better.

I’m going to miss that girl when she heads back home. Cherish the time you have with your kids. Whether they are still small (which thankfully I still have a few of those) or whether they are grown and gone ( I have a couple of those too). Kids grow in the blink of an eye.

For real.
